The summer holidays began at Delta with our Summer Art Week where 25 children had the chance to give the gallery walls a makeover. The children brainstormed and came up with ideas for a magical world where life, colour and creativity played the biggest part. Each child had their own section of the wall to make something unique...and they created the most beautiful artwork. Vibrant trees, tents and structures grew out of nowhere to fill the walls before handmade flowers, animals and birds were added to bring it to life! During the week we also took a trip down to the river to draw inspiration from the natural world around us and thankfully the rain let up for an afternoon so we could head down there and have some fun while it stayed dry! We also celebrated two birthdays during the week, Megan who turned 12 and Noah who turned 11!!! Megan told us that it was, 'THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!' as she got to paint, play her new ukulele and eat cake...what more can you ask for! Parents had been banished from the exhibition space all week so they were desperate to get in and see what the children had been getting up to! After the parents had gathered, each child came in to the gallery to an applause and then showed off their work to family and friends. We are now coming to the end of the holidays and our young artists classes will resume on a Tuesday/Wednesday evening for teenagers and Saturday/Sunday for primary age children. We are looking forward to getting back and only have 4 short weeks to prepare for the annual children's exhibition which will open on September the 29th. This exhibition is always our most colourful show, please come along and join us for either the opening or a quiet look in October.
